Many people enjoy dancing as both a recreational pursuit and as an integral part of their fitness routine.

Modern Jive dancing is a great way to keep in shape without feeling as though you are somehow being punished for enjoying your food or a treat. Many people simply find dancing enjoyable and fun. As with most things in life, you will enjoy learning to dance much more if you find the dancing instruction and lessons that work for you.

Here are 3 different ways you can turn into a great dancer – faster than you might think.

1. Formal Group Dance Lessons You can sign up for group dance lessons at almost any age. In a modern jive class for example there are very few requirements and dance classes are offered for many different experience levels. Are you a complete novice? At a modern jive class you learn you the dance basics so you can dance quite confidently in any social setting. Advanced dance classes are designed to teach Intermediate/Advanced students more challenging dance techniques and moves, such as dips, lifts and drops. Although some classes are more formal, after 6-12 beginner modern jive dance lessons and plenty of practice in freestyle dancing you could feel quite comfortable with the Intermediate moves.

2. Weekend Dance Workshops

If you want to fast track learning to dance confidently there is no better or cheaper way to do so than a small-group workshop. They are usually smaller than a formal dance class and consist of other people who also want the benefit of an intensive focused 2-3 hours working on different aspects of their dancing goals. In a beginner or improver modern jive workshop you’ll find people who are just learning to dance for the first time, people improving their dancing and even people who have been dancing a few years who want a refresher.

As a lady if you want to improve your spins, become a better follow in partner dancing or even learn musicality a 4-hour weekend workshop will meet all your needs and many more. As a guy, if you want to learn to be a better lead or want to add 12-14 new moves to your dance repertoire – you can do it in just one afternoon. Because modern jive workshops include plenty of time to practice (what’s called freestyle dancing) between each block of moves, they do wonders for your confidence, not to mention the new friendships you can develop with your fellow workshop attendees.

All you need is a sense of humour and the willingness to allow yourself to make mistakes. In face beginner “intensive” workshops give you the best of private dance lessons and formal group dance lessons. In just 4 hours on a Saturday or Sunday you could make significant progress in your dancing ability providing a great foundation for continuing group lessons. At the intermediate dance workshops more advanced dancers and improvers can learn style, musicality, advanced techniques and much more in an intensive small friendly group setting.

3. Private Dance Lessons Private dance lessons tend to be pricier than group lessons, however if your finances allow it then this is a great way to fast track your progress.

A private modern jive dance lesson means you and a partner get one on one instruction and the full attention of the dance instructors. Private lessons give you the most bang for your buck. If you prefer not to wait for other students to catch up, you can move at your own pace. And you won’t feel left behind by students who have a higher beginning skill level. You can use private dance lessons to address specific needs and problem areas you may have with your dancing. And if your schedule makes it challenging to fit in group lessons private lessons might be the answer.

The main downside of private dance lessons is that they lack the social experience and “high” that you get from dancing with different people in an evening group class. Many people take dance classes in the first place to get out of the house, engage socially with others, build a new social circle, make new friends, have fun and create new experiences. If you are single or recently separated, the freedom to attend a dance lesson that doesn’t require you bring a partner can be a great relief – and may be just what you need to get out there and begin dancing.

At a modern jive dance evening you’ll find the emphasis is on having fun and the social aspect of dancing which helps speed up learning a new skill. If you feel you need private lessons, try doing a couple of private dance lessons first and then joining in the group lessons, using private lessons as and when you need them.

Whatever approach you choose for your dancing, select the one that works for you, pick your dance class and start learning to dance today. You won’t regret it.
